Drilling rotors

Are there any real work advantages to drilling the rotors other than it looks really cool?

But my real question: Will it affect the balancing? Or can you just mount the rotor to the wheel and balance it as a unit?

It will reduce rolling weight, and cool the break. You should always have your rotor mounted when balancing the wheel.

Ya-no when I had my tire balanced the guy took off the hub just slides off and took out the donuts
SO I asked arn't you going to need those to speed balance that he said NO,then put those holes were ever I guess,I'd say drilling to loose wheight and cooling less metal to have to cool off also.

I have heard the cooling both ways.

Holes-let heat escape

Solid-more area to absorb heat off of the pad.

Both make sense to me.

Holes allow cooling and allow brake dust to escape better and I think reduces squeal BUT the loss of surface area reduces braking power from what I hear.

Ok. Thanks Rerun. I got a pair of brakes to go on front of  the new bike and really wanted to drill them.  Looks like balance wont be an issue so Ill have at it.

Thanks guys
