Dying battery on my Voyager...

sgtslag
The flooded, lead-acid battery, is dying.  Need a new one.  Did some research, and I really like the MotoBatt AGM batteries,, but there is a lot of folks saying that batteries  are not worth paying top dollar for, because they all fail at about the same rate.  Did some looking around, and I found a TMS brand, AGM, factory activated, fully charged out of the box, battery for around $53, delivered, off of e-Bay.  The MotoBatt is $125, factory activated, fully charged out of the box, delivered for free, off of e-Bay.

AGM is the only battery type I will buy anymore, but some folks sell them with the acid needing to be added, and then you have to charge it.  This is a much better deal, for me, as I trust a factory activated battery more -- less chance for me to screw it up by not following the initial charging guidelines properly.  Seller states it comes with a warranty, but he does not say what the terms are (e-mailed him asking the terms).

I've used Battery Tender Jr.'s on both of my bikes, for a number of years.  The seller told me the battery in the Voyager was only a few months old, when I bought it from him -- it lasted 1-1/2 years.  I hate flooded batteries.

I'll let everyone know how it goes.  I could not find much on TMS brand batteries, for reviews.  For the price (<1/2 of most AGM batteries for this bike), I am willing to take the chance.  I have a battery monitor on the bike:  alternates between current voltage reading, and the percentage of life left in the battery (tests it on every start).  If it lasts three years, it will be worth the investment.  Cheers!

My last agm lasted 4 years. I never used a tender ever. it was prefilled and charged. The 1 good thing about filling it yourself is that the battery starts its life when you do that. If it is filled beforehand and sits on shelf for months, those are months you dont get back.
When I replaced my agm with a new one, it was prefilled. I like not having to fill them too!
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
