Electrasport rotors?

jeric
Has anyone else had experiences with rotors from electrasport? Bought a new one from them, went 500 miles with it and then managed to get the bike up to 6g rpm one time. When I did the bike surged, lost power and then finally blew the fuse. When I remove the stater cover it was full of the insulation from the rotor. The rotor grounded my battery and now I am out the 124.00 I spent.

I have heard of people having bad experiences with these aftermarket/rebuilt rotors before. There was a thread on here awhile back where a guy used one, and it went bad. It even cracked his case, and rotor cover. Looked like someone had been arc welding in there.

$124.00
Sent it to a guy in Mississippi and he rebuilt it correctly. I should have know that something was wrong when I got it the first time. The sealant on the outside of the windings wasa milky white plastic, kind of like dried varithane built up. It worked well until I got the rpm's up to 6k, that is when it failed and shorted out breaking the fuses. Limped to my destination using up 10 fuses and then finally disconnected the voltage regulator and ran on battery to my destination. Took off the cover and found exploded sealant all on the inside.

Running great now though.

Yuck.  Not good.  Most of the automotive parts places do not warranty/replace electrical parts.  I would hope you can reach some agreement with Electrosport on this.  It sure looks like the part failed, not due to your efforts.

I guess that begs the question: where are the GOOD rotors coming from?  I know NOS units are getting very hard to find, and rebuilding them will cost some money.

I hope you don't mind but I am placing a shameless plug for Tim. He got me up and running even though he had a death in the family and wasn't concentrating on work. I sent the bad rotor to him and he rebuilt it and sent it back shortly. $85.00  I was so thankful considering what I could have paid.

I've heard good things about TPE too. I think they actually do the rebuilds for Ricks (he just resells them). I've got an extra core that I've been meaning to send in so I'd have good spare on hand.

By the way, can you tell me if anyone has a cover badge? My 10th year anniversary badge for the left side is missing and I would like to replace it. It is the only thing not standard on my bike. The only ones I can find on e-bay want 46 bucks for the plastic badge. Or 90 for a set of covers I don't need.
