Electrical..AARRGGHHHHHHHH

stu_2009
Can anyone point me to the first thing to check. Just picked up an '81' 750f found in a barn, the guy i got it of said it was sound when he laid it up ten years ago. Stuck a new battery on it, all electrics work apart from nothin from the electric start. As i am new to this, can anyone help me with what to check first or what to change first?? Your help will be much appreciated.

Well as daft as this is going to sound did you make sure that your batt is fully charged ? after that I would suggest taking every panel off and tracing back all of your wires check fuses is where I would start do you have a multimeter ? start tracing the power from the battery to the starter look for loose bad connections/corrosion if he laid it up ten years ago there is a chance the motor is frozen what part of the country are you in ?

Im in sunny Norfolk, England!! The starter solidoid looks pretty corroded, but the wiring all looks good. Would it be the sarter motor?? There isnt even a click or anything when the elecy start is pushed, so in my head ist more likely to be the starter solinoid!!

It could be the sylonoid. it has 2 big posts on it. you can see if the starter is ok by jumping across the 2 big terminals. if it spins then it is ok.
The sylenoid can be tested by jumping the small terminal to the + side of the battery. If the starter spins then it is ok. Next thing back may be eather the quick shutoff or the start button itself.
