My 76F had an old ( i believe they are no longer made) Martek electronic ignition in it when I got it. The bike had sat for 7 years when I got it and the ignition was 5 years old then. I have put almost 10,000 miles on it since I got it with no problems at all. My chopper has a Dyna in it that was installed...who knows when, but the bike sat from 1987 til a month ago when i got it running. I have only put a little over 700 miles on that bike, but it is doing well.

The name ''electronic ignition'' is actually pretty misleading. All they are is a magnetic pickup. The rotor that mounts to the end of the crank has a magnet in it that pulls a switch closed when it passes by the modlues which causes the coils(s) to pulse. They are extremely simple devices.

I was thinking that the overheating problems with the points ignition when they get out of tune could be avoided by using electronic ignition.  Glad to hear that they are reliable.
