Engine internals!

Hohokam337
Hello,

I'm looking to change the engine internals on my new old '77 cb750

I've been looking around the interwebs and found some quotes for complete kits,

but all ive seen was from 900 and up

is that the price i am going to be looking at?

if you could help me find a good kit for its worth, that would be awesome.

Thanks,
Hohokam

How bad is your engine? Usually rings, and a valve job are all they need. I have seen the bottom end's go 150,000 with out any problems. However $900 is about right for a complete rebuild kit.

I haven't cracked it open yet, judging from the outside it doesn't look that bad just some of the hard ware is a bit rusty and the out side the motor looks like it has calcium build up(white rust). I tend to prepare for the worst, so just in case there is water in the motor or something along those lines.

just remove the bottom pan, and the side (alt, shift, and clutch) cover's off, and look in. look for water, metal particulates, and scorching. smell the oil. Is it burnt smelling? Remove the head, and cylinders. does the crank rotate smoothly? Have the cylinders, and pistons micked at a machine shop. They will do this for free, and tell you if you need an overbore.
just because the outside looks weathered, and aged does not mean the insides are bad.
