Engine serial number

maybe73
Did honda stamp engine serial numbers any where else on motor other than top left on crank case? Maybe not visible without removing covers. Still cant determine what year engine is. The engine number has been changed by someone years ago. No one can make heads or tails out of CB750-1209980. That's what the engine serial number reads.

No they did not, and that is an odd number. Has it been changed?

I was afraid of that. Yes it has been changed. I don't have any way to really tell what engine year it is. So far all parts I order using 1975 cb 750f fit and seem to be correct. Same number is stamped on frame. I started this conversation about a month ago and still can't figure it out. Thanks again TOOLS1, you are a good man.

I know Law Enforcement has some sort of chemical/acid test that will bring out the original numbers. Used to be a big deal when bikes were titled to engine numbers, but now they are titled to frame numbers. Altering them is a Federal offense. Does the bike you you have still have the Honda frame, or is it built on a custom frame?

Per this link:

It would seem that although a number of smaller engine changes were made, most parts interchange - so that I'd doubt that you'll have parts ordering issues.  Good luck with your bike!

Here's what I'm dealing with. Frame number that's stamped on neck is the same as engine number on id plate. So I decided to pop off id plate and obviously it has been messed with by some previous owners. I got it titled  and licensed in Illinois with out any questions, so I guess there's nothing more I can do except ride it like I stole it. Yes it is a stock k frame with what I believe are some f parts. Who knows? Thanks again.
