Exhaust. Collars

Racingrobby
I totally feel dumb now . So Ive been painting the motor with it on the frame . And I took off the exhaust and header .  Well went  to slap it back together and I cant remember watch collar goes with each other. I have two smaller lipped collar ones. I'm not sure if they should  be smaller ones or they are cut down or rusted out?????? Please let me know what you think .. Thanks

Some of the pipes have double collars. It looks like that is what you have. I think it depends on the diameter of the header tubing. It seems that one of the collars acts as a reducer, whereas the other is the one that actually pushes against the gasket. I'm 90% I have that right.Maybe 95%...

I think those two are rusted off. They should all be the same.

Did I put the  main collar on with the header on then the half moon things on?? Or  do the half moon things go inside the main collar and then install ??  What do I do ? I should have paid more intention when I pulled it apart . I was all thinking about how i was going to tape the motor and how mess up it would look. Lol In  the winter I thinking the motor is coming out and do some touch ups..

Put the collars on the header before hanging it from the engine. Then the half-moons go on. The wide end goes towards the collar.

On my 81K the half moons were actually attached at one side, so they are more of a bendable "C".  For me, I needed to make sure that they didn't slip inside the vented flanges, but kind of rested on top of them.  If they slip inside then the half moons can't press on the copper crush washers and the headers won't seal properly.
