FRONT SHOCK ABSORBERS SEAL REPLACEMENT

I had bought pre-owned front shock absorbers around a decade back and they have now started leaking. Now I plan to replace its oil seal. The seal already installed in the shocks is directed upwards (viewed as if the shocks are installed on the bike. Shouldn't the lip be pointing downwards, rather, inwards towards the oil?

   picture would help alot , there are even those that don't realize / SAY there not stk. ,till after some-one suggest something.
