Forks weak

So currently it seems as if my forks are sagging in that they compress very very easy. There seems to be a leak I assume. Around the seals I can feel oil residue. I thought maybe I need to just do an oil change to see if its just that or I need to replace the springs as well.

Well I have the air assisted forks. I removed the air tube going across but how am I supposed to remove the cap? Everywhere I've looked for tutorials they have the simple cap you just use a wrench to remove.

Okay so I got the cap off and had the oil drained. I also took the sping out and washed it. One side had a bunch of gunk on it so got that removed. Put it back in and put 5.5 oz of fork oil in. I took it for a small drive on my drive way and looks like still a problem. The forks just compress so much as soon as I sit on it. And when I pull front brake from a slow coast it compresses all the way, like its bottoming out.

Some forks had a spacer in the top above the spring to provide some preload. Yours might have had these and someone removed them. With all the weight off the front end, the springs should stick out of the top of the fork tubes about an inch to an inch and a half. If they don't, you can make a spacer out of PVC pipe. Just measure from the top of the spring to the top of the fork, and add an inch to an inch and a half.

Yeah they stick out but only about half an inch. Do you think adding spacers should do the trick?

Do you have pressure caps on your forks, I don't remember? A hand pump and about 7 psi might do it. Some people removed those though, and stuck in better springs.
