Frame/Rear brake/Suspension Question - 79 K model

monkeynando
I'm currently working on a 79 K model that I would like to build something out of. I dont know how I would classify a 'style'... if anything it would be along the lines of a tracker/scrambler.

The bike is completely stripped down, engine removed. I have been working on cutting and grinding everything unnecessary from the frame, and have removed passenger peg mounts (and stock rear brake pivot point) - which brings me to my next question.

To those that have the experience and know their way around this frame, I would like to get rid of the stock drum brake, and possibly the swingarm as well; so as to have better choices with tires etc. I want to retain rear suspension however, monoshock is out of the question.

My first few searches shows that a cbr600f2 swingarm would bolt up. What would you guys suggest as a good/efficient solution for a swingarm/rear-end swap ?

I would like to retain stock swingarm mount points/dimensions on the frame. Any and all input much appreciated !

The F2 arm does work with a little work. I've never done it myself, but lots of folks claim it's an easy fit.

You'll have to add mounting locations for the original twin shocks. Since the arm is relatively thin in that area ( It was designed for mono), you'd have to fab up some sort of tab that wraps around the edges of that arm to really support the weight well. If you just pop a tab on top of the arm you could likely cave it in at that area.

Just realized that I have possibly overthought the whole issue -

From what I've read so far - the easiest way to go rear disc on this bike would be to obtain a '81 SS rear end... (Swingarm, wheel, Rotor + Caliper)... This would be slightly more limiting in the tire department than a F2 swingarm, but I'm not looking to go wider than a 150 or so anyway.

Could anyone possibly chime in/confirm that a 81 SS rear end would bolt up to my 79 K frame ? I'm willing to 'make it fit'... but would be awesome if it bolts up.

Should bolt right on. However you will need to fabricate mounts for the master cylinder.
