Front brake component

SmashEmUp
On my 81/C the brake line from the master cylinder goes down to the bar mounted near the horns and turn signals then to each caliper. What is that part and it purpose besides to be a splitter to the dual front brakes? Thanks for tolerating my noob ignorance.

That thing there in the middle with two hoses coming out the bottom of it and two screws on top holding it up?  There's no wire coming out of it and my switch is on my master cylinder. lol

On the SOHC bikes it is the switch. However if it does not have any wires...

Yes all those bikes are currently in my collection. I also have several others not listed though. However those are being sold, or parted out.
As for the splitter. If, you don't want to use it. Don't. It won't hurt anything. Also my 81 is a K model, and only has a single disc front break, so no splitter.

Re: Front brake component

Ah, gotcha. Since I have to buy all new lines, I was kind of thinking of running on long line down to the right side, double up on that side have one short line loop over the fender to the left side caliper. Like modern sport bikes (or at least like mine, 2008 GSX-R 600). But again, just want to understand what it does first. If all it does is split, then the modified setup will function just the same.
