I know this a fairly straight forward job,but i hate going into something without all of the info i can possibly acquire.I finally made time to do mine today and learned a few thing s i hadn't seen posted so...
First off,the dust seal. With all the junk that accumulates by the time it needs rebuilding its hard to see what is going on.There is a small clip that retains that dust boot(first part you will remove). It goes on the outside edge of the boot to retain it.If you just pull the boot out the clip will most likely remain(like i did) and will hide inside all of the crud and give you trouble.I was wondering why the piston retaining c-clip was impossible to get at until i saw that the dust boot clip was still in there and in the way.It looks like this:
Secondly, removing the c-clip that holds the piston in.The piston is obviously spring loaded and wants to poke up and in your way making things even more cramped, and making you angry. If you dont have someone to help( i never do) you need it out of the way.I propped up several screwdrivers against the vise to help hold it down while i got after the clip.It worked good for a clumsy guy like me
