Gas Tank Liners

madfitz
Okay I just got a 1981 cb750k.  Gas tank is crap.  Someone tried to put in liner but went bad.  I pressure washed inside and dug out wad of s--t with handfull of nuts.  Bought Kremm kit started to use cleaner.  Kits states tank must be clean of all rust and anything else.  Cleaner is not working.  Read about useing muric acid, seems a littlte extrem.  I have since gone on-line and have found couple other kits; KBS, Red Cote and Caswell.  These all seem to cover over whats left in tank.  However, I do not want to have to redo.  Which best to use?

On my bike, see it on the Member's bike page, the inside of the gas tank was crap, total rust. I used electrolysis, using this site a battery charger, water and Oxy clean, after bolts, etc to get the large stuff.  Works great and no chemical bomb in the back yard!

The electrolysis method works really well, just give it time.

After that, depending on your tank, you have a few options.
I can't really recommend kreem. To many horror stories about it peeling. It has been around a long time so it must work to some degree. probably all in the the preparation and have a spotless tank.

A good option is por-15. It is a 3 step kit that seems to work well for a good majority of people. I have heard of it failing but I think that is also poor prep work but it includes a strong cleaner to help you out.

The other ones listed I have not heard too much on.

A final option is to take the tank to a radiator shop and have them seal it.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

This one has a lot of crap that wont come off.  I am afraid if I use
Kreem or such product it will have same problem.  I like the sound of
the Caswell Epoxy kit.  Any recommendations?

If the tank has that much crap in it, I would probably take it to a radiator shop to have it flushed out really well. Call around to some of the smaller shops, they seem most likely to do stuff like this for cheap.
