Gas tank sealer?

Apparently my 79 has had the tank sealed before I got it.
Noticed bits of what looked like newspaper floating around in it last year.
Some say its a product called Creem that is degrading.

A neighbor of mine is into vintage bikes, he's telling me he uses a guy that cleans the insides
and uses some stuff that is red in color.
Says the guy charges 100 to 150 per tank.

Anyone have any input or experience with this situation?

Red stuff would be Redcoat. Pretty good reputation, but when I MUST line a tank I use POR-15. If the guy guarantees the job that price seems right.

I get yer drift, I'd much rather not have anything but tank and fuel, but I gotta do something.
It's a wonder crap hasn't gotten past the lawn mower inline petrol filter into the carbs already.

Gonna try the Redcoat.

Por15 works wonders from what I have heard. If I had to use 1, it would be that.

Not to be argumentative, but you asked.

A friend bought the Por stuff. They have a good reputation for their frame paint, so we were both thinking good thoughts. The stuff came in and it was like water. Very thin. We both got the impression it was junk , and he ended up using it to paint the bumper on the back of a truck that he hardly ever drives. Rusted through in just a few months.

He then experimented with Caswell. It's only been a year at best, so not alot to say about longevity, but that shit is tough. Dries clear, shiny, thick and very hard. Reminds me of a billiard ball. If I had to use a liner I would use Caswell.

Kreem has a bad rep. Period

I've seen two or three RedKoat liners fail myself.

Good luck dude

POR-15 gas tank liner is not meant to be rusty bumper paint.

LOL. Agreed. But we figured it it was supposed to be good enough for constant gasoline exposure that it would hold up to a few raindrops, too. Unfortunately, it did not.
