Gaskets, 79 cb750

palbradley
I am rebuilding my 79 cb750K, entire engine, top to bottom. Is it wise to use the "gell type" gasket in addition to my new fibre gaskets that I am using? And if I should, can anyone reccommend a good gel brand?

Do you mean silicone? These engines have some really small oiling passages that can be easily plugged with silicone on accident if it gets in to the engine. I just had an issue with this myself. Cost me my camshaft.

Threebond is supposedly a good sealant to use on these bikes. Most of the time they seal fine with just using the gaskets dry. Are you having issues getting something sealed?

Thanks Shinny. I haven't put my engine back together yet. I asked as a precaution as I want to do this correctly. I had a horrible breakdown 8 months ago. The chain that runs from my lower primary drive up to the top cam broke and scattered aluminum shavings throughout my crankcase. I've spent the past 8 months dismantling the entire engine, cleaning every part down to the transmission, and now it's time to rebuild. As you can imagine this has been a major project so I am trying to prevent any future problems as best I can.
