Getting into First

FastCletus
I rode this past weekend and noticed, that after I was riding for quite  awhile, I kept having a hard time getting the bike to get into first gear.  The only way it worked flawlessly is if I down shifted each gear all the way to first.  but if I just roll the clutch in and stop the bike, and then then try and click down to first it stops at 2nd

Could it be I need new clutch springs?  Been thinking about replacing clutch as it slips in the 8-9k range on hard acceleration.

The transmission is designed to go into neutral from second while moving, and not from first, moving, or stopped. However some can be coaxed to do it (Kawasakis are good, for this.) Doubt clutch springs will make any difference.
