Got a slow leak

Freerider90
Hey Guys, got a problem...
I was fixing to go for a ride the other day and I noticed a few drips of oil under my bike. Seems to be coming out where the shift lever is. It's not a fast leak, just a few drops every now and then, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is leaking. I'm going to fix it as soon as I have some time and money, but I would like to know what I'm getting into. Any advice is much appriciated, thanks.

Probably just the seal there. It is a pretty common spot really and not hard to change. Just get a new shifter seal and put it in.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

I agree with rerun that it's probably just the shifter shaft seal , but could also be the countershaft seal . -- Either way , it's an easy fix .

I have a 1980 model 750K that has an automatic chain oiler on the drive sprocket with an o-ring oil seal that is prone to dropping a few spots of oil from time to time. it shows up under shifter where it runs down case.

Did the oiler come stock? I know most of the sohc models did not have an oiler unless a person added one.

Freerider, just to throw my 2 cents in. My 74 has a chain oiling system that was stock. The oil passes through the center of the counter shaft sprocket through an O-ring mechanism. Adjustment is explained in the Clymer manual for the SOHC 750s. It only requires a small amount, if someone cranked it open too much you will have oil all over the place. Best way is to clean the area then watch were the oil is coming from. The seals around the gear shifter are easy to replace, could be that. The O-ring at the chain oiler could be worn out also.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone, always helpful. I would like to hear more about this chain oiling system, pardon my ignorance this is the first chain drive bike I've had; how exactly does that work? Do all chain drive bikes have them? Do all CB750's have them? Thanks again for all the advice.

The oiler works from the center of the counter shaft. The shaft has an oil passage through its center. I don't know about all Honda 750s but my 74 has it. Adjustment is done by loosening a lock nut in the center of the counter shaft and either turning the oiler in for less flow or out for more. Then tighten the locking nut. If the adjustment is out too much the chain is not the only thing that will be well oiled :)
Some owners just close it and keep an eye on their chains. I have mine open just a little, but I also used lube on my chain.
