HELP

Ghost-Flame
Hi Guys, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on one of 2 bikes I have not seen yet. One is an 1982 750 SC the other is a 1980 750 C. I am building a cafe racer. and want the tight rake that the C has. Is the SC the same rake as the C. The pictures make the SC look more stretched.
The SC is in better condition, so I'm told, but the C which is not in bad condition, so I'm told, is the configuration that I want. I am stripping to the frame and rebuilding every nut, bolt, paint and powder coat to look like something you'd see in Italy or England in the 60s or 70s. Bon Jour... wait I think that's French

I'm going to look at the SC today. I won't even make the 2 hr trip if its not the right rake.

Well from what I can find, the 80 C has a trail of 4.8 In (121mm). And the 82 sc has a trail of 4.7 In(120mm)
The C info is from the manual and the sc info is from here: http://hondanighthawks.net/750.htm

Is that enough to make a difference? I don't think so myself but I think the sc MIGHT work better as a cafe but might be a bit harder to find parts for.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

As an owner of a '82 SC...only '82 and '83 share parts (along with a few 900C parts) and don't have hydraulic valves.  So if u go for the sc u will be able to get a premium for your "leftovers"....lol.
In 1972 I had to make a choice...quit riding...or quit drinking.  God says it's safe to get back in the saddle now...at least I'm still alive...and feel more alive with the wind in my face!  Now riding "Helen Black"...1982  CB750SC.

The amount of trail is what is important to keep it from getting into a high speed wobble.
What matters to the rider and the feel, is the RAKE.
The SC model is 29.5 degrees of rake. Perfect. The same as the most winning motorcycle in the history of racing motorcycles, the H-D XR750.

Also the amount of offset figures into it all, but there is not much difference between the two bikes.
On a Roadstar Adventure.

I decided on the C. The SC was in a little better condition. But, I liked the c better and the rake is a tad tighter. I picked it up last night and I will start tearing down Saturday. I'm happy, I am concerned about the condition of the engine. The seller parked it in his barn 2 years ago and he says he drove it in , shut it off and it doesn't start now, battery and fuel from sitting. The oil on the stick looks fairly clean but, smells of gas.

The first thing will be to crank the engine and if it goes according to the seller then go from there.

What would it cost roughly, to have a complete engine rebuild from top to bottom at a MC  engine shop?

I've heard $600 plus parts. What's the real story?

Sounds about right, but if it has good compression don't worry about it.
