HELP!!

I'm thinking of buying my first CB 750 and need a little help. If anyone can tell me what major problems occur with these older bikes I would appreciate it. I love these bikes, but don't want to buy something that I cant handle mechanically. Thanks for any help or suggestions that are given..

SOHC, or DOHC?  The SOHC are easier to work on [constant velocity (CV) carb's on the DOHC's, are more challenging], and their oil seems to run cooler (the DOHC's oil runs around 250 F, maximum, which is the thermal limit of conventional oils).  Aside from that, my wife and I rode our '79 K model, two up, around Lake Superior, in 2009 -- the bike's 30th birthday...  Not a problem with it, 1,935 miles, riding four days in near-constant rain, in Canada.  The bike was overloaded with gear, on OEM suspension (tired, and retired after that trip, replaced with Progressive, front and rear).  It ran flawlessly.  We upgraded to a luxury touring bike because we tour, a lot, during the riding season, and it is a much better ride for that purpose.

They are fantastic, APJB's, adaptable to most styles of riding:  town, day trips, cafe racers, touring, etc.  They are reliable, and typically very affordable.  Best of luck, and welcome to the forum!  Cheers!

I purchased a 1979 CB750L last November but I knew it had some mechanical issues. I ended up removing and rebuilding the motor and carburetors. The carburetors will be the most likely issue to deal with, then valve adjustments, cam chain tensioning, drive chain/sprockets, clutch adjustments, and the mufflers. All should be within your abilities if you are at all mechanically inclined. I haven't had many problems finding parts. My main learning experience is all the habits and skills I've acquired rebuilding car engines go out the window with these motors.  You're dealing with aluminum parts and closer tolerances.

     Major happenings May-be
   But no Major Prob's.Many know/love these ole s.o.h.c. and they let ya no,

 I'd say they set to high and stk.don't have a good low center of gravity

Best advice: find someone who knows these bikes to accompany you. Check that the engine is stone cold before starting. A bike with start problems will be warmed up ready for your visit.
