Having a huge problem with my 1978 Honda cb750 S.S.

Hello. I just recently acquired a 78' Honda CB.750 S.S.
I was riding down the highway today, just got the damn thing legal,
And I noticed that I was losing horsepower. So I kept driving along
hoping that it would work itself out. Well it didnt, I then get about 1
Mile from my house and noticed the oil light kicks on NOTE: Just
changed oil about 20 miles ago before riding. So it acted like it wanted stall, then
It did. I then jumped off the bike and checked the oil, still full but
really thin looking. I get it back home and wait about 20 minutes
And try to start again it finally kick after feeling seized and starts
But knocks so I shut it off immediately to avoid any major damage
And thats my problem there. I run castrol 20-50 motorcycle oil. When I changed
the oil I took the cover off the front, right were the exhausts meet the
heads and checked the oil filter and it looked ok. So I put it back
together and im hoping that I put it back together properly. Spring then
Cap, or cap then spring??? I did spring first then cap. Nothing leaking
Other then a little bit at the bolt of the drain pan. No biggie, just a small
Minute drip. PLEASE HELP ME!!!! DANNY

It goes spring, washer, then oil filter. However why did you reuse an old filter? As for what you are describing, it sounds like you have fried your engine.

I guess I shouldnt say it knocking like a rod or anything, I looked on YouTube and there was a guy on there with the same problem and he said it ended up being a valve. Also since my last post Ive been able to fire it and its got that ticking sounds coming from the top of motor, So im thinking it could possibly be a valve sticking and needs adjustment or cam chain needing adjustment. It still has compression, but it don't want to stay running and im scared to take the chance in running it to long because of possibly damaging somthing else. Not sure if you have any other pointers they would be highly appreciated. Thanks Tool.
