Re: Hello fellow people!

I have to do some wiring stuff anyways (find/fix stop light not lighting, wire up cigarette lighter) and can install them as an experiment. Not sure how to get the old grips off though as I haven't got an air compressor.

I'd be interested in what you end up finding as far as heated grips. The ones I see local are $100+.

To get the old grips off I use a long skinny screwdriver, shove it under the grip as far as i can and squirt some PB Blaster in there. I do the upper side of the grip. Then they just slide right off. If yours are glued on real tight it may be another issue altogether. I have also found that 3M Weather Strip Adhesive works good for gluing on grips. It holds just fine but when you want to remove them, just give it a good firm twist and the adhesive will POP loose. Just dont get too caveman on them and snap your throttle tube. But they are cheap if you do,like $3.

Excellent, I'm going to order 'em within the next couple days, and probably put 'em on next weekend. I'm hoping to go to my dad's on the other side of the state and do all electrical with him, there.

Electrical stuff: fix stop light (low beam works, doesn't light up when hitting either brake), run wire from battery to central location (headlight probably), tap into headlight for relay, put 10-amp inline fuse in and wire up grip heaters, cigarette lighter from that.

Chain issues are non-existant (never did fix the center stand issue 'till tonight - mechanic welded a bolt to the center stand, it now hits the exhaust and stops 1-2" from chain; chain isn't torn up yet so is fine for a while yet), put new coils in, and hope that fixes most issues. Also going to clean the petcock and hope that fixes/resolves my no-reserve-tank issues. Then its going over maintenance stuff, do an oil change, and tighten up the suspension once stuff is loaded and I -should- be good!

GETTING THERE.

I dont know if the front brake lite switch on your DOHC is like my SOHC or not. But if it is the pressure switch type then it probably just needs replacing. Alot of older cars used those switches. The one on my bike is 1/8'' pipe thread which is common to autos. If you need one of those you could probably get one from an auto parts place cheaper then a cycle store.

The rear brake switch on mine is the pull type. Mine quit working so I pried the case open, cleaned the contacts and got her working again. They're only like $8 for a new one,but I'm cheap like that.

Glad to hear you're getting your engine sickle all sorted out

Re: Hello fellow people!

I have a new brake master cylinder, which came with a new switch. I am going to put a test light to the wires and test them. Because both failed at the same time, near as I can tell, wherever the wires come together is suspect, to me.

I am going to print off a wiring diagram at work on 11x17 paper, and think I should be able to find the problem.

Also, the fllashers and horn don't work. So I also want to investigate why. But the rear flashers are coming off (the right side fell off in May, and it looks odd with 1 left rear) but they still worked after it fell off for a couple months. Also, they worked for a second or 2 when I put a new flasher in them, then they stopped. So I need to find out what happened in that department, too.

Once I get to a computer, I am cross-posting these to the bike thread, since this isn't a mechanical thread. Lol.
