Help! Carb problem

Mpavblue
Hi guys,  I have a 74 750K that I am rebuilding as a Cafe' racer.  Everything was progressing nicely until on the advice of a friend I removed the carb float bowls and found a really bad case of corosion.  The bowls are completely full of a nasty white mess the with consistancy and appearance of battery corrosion.  I think they are pretty much past saving but I would like to know what this is and what causes this.  I have theorised that it is because of the quality of the alum. used and the brass/copper pins used for the floats causing a reaction between the two types of metal.  The bike sat for around 8 years prior to me getting it so this can't have helped.  I've been working on car/bikes for 15years and Ive never seen this.  Any info would be welcome.

Actually the bowls will most likely be fine. This seems to be caused by water getting into the bowls and sitting. Soak them in some simple green for an hour or so and use some elbow grease to clean things up. See how they look after that.

Thanks for the input on this.  The bowls themselves are fine but the carb bodys are shot.  Chucks coming off etc.  Like I said, I've never seen anything like this before.  Wish I could save them as they are the only set I've got.  If anyone know's of a set laying around for a 74 750K' I'm in the market.

I do not have a set but anything from 71 - 76 will slip right on.
