Hi All.
I wondered if anyone could help. Please see below images of a bike I found on my farther in laws farm. Can anyone tell me what year it is?
More pics: I don't really know much about bikes but I am drawn to the charm of this old dirty 'piece of junk' as my wife calls it.
Would I be mad to start a refurb project? Would I even be able to get it to start? Where would I start?
Any help, views would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Nick.

Awesome find! I would definitely try and get that thing running. That looks like a very complete bike. What fasteners you can see in the pics are not rounded off. There are two things that make it better than mine when i first got it.I dont know what the importance of the "Four" is compared to other models. The year of the bike will be on an aluminum tag on the steering neck on the right hand side. Its a SOHC,so that puts it before 1978.The air filters and handle bars are aftermarket,so i would say it was someones toy at one time. Therefore, probably well maintained up until it was parked.Might even be lucky enough to score an electronic ingition is that is the case. You probably wont even have a molested wiring harness on a bike that nice looking. The carburetors on that bike are known as round tops, they are eeeeasy to work on and parts are readily available.Everything on these bikes is easy to work on and readily available.I know its dirty, but just by looking at it,i would say that bike is probably not in too bad of shape. How long does the license tag say it has been since it was parked?
If it were me i would put fresh oil and a filter in it.Clean the carbs a little, pop the bowls and clean off the obvious crud,no need to be spotless if just trying to see if it would run,and jump her off.Use another container for gas, since i imagine the tank is probably full of crud. My bike was parked in semi-enclosed storage(looks like same as yours) for a little over 5 years.Thats all i did and it started up on the first touch of the button!
Give her a go and have fun with her!

I wish my Father-in-law had that. It looks like an early one from the tail light, but that could have been changed. Like Shinny said, Check the tag, or if it is missing post the serial number. The wheels are not original either, and they are not Honda comstars, so they might be aftermarket. The bike was definitely someones pride, and joy once.

The shocks, and front fender are also different, but what is really surprising is the key is in it.

Good eye! I was curious about the toggle switch between the gauges.Maybe my remark about the wiring was premature

No of course it's not in the US, as you said the keys still in it! Only Joking. It’s in Sweden. I'm from the UK but moved here a few months ago from London.... I'm in need of a project and it seems I’ve found one!
Thanks all for replying. I went down this morning and had another look. I checked the tag but unfortunately the date part of it was damaged... all I could see was the frame number and type: CB750. I also checked under the seat but the manual was missing. I spoke to my farther in law and he thinks he has the manual somewhere so hopefully we can find that. I'm happy I haven’t got to find the keys anyway.
I'm not an expert, but the wiring doesn’t look in great shape. There seems to be a lot of electrical tape and broken wires. Maybe I'm wrong.
Over the weekend I’m planning to clean it up. Then I can post some more pics and hopefully get a better idea of what sort of condition its in.
When I search on the internet for parts, most seem to come from the US. Are parts cheap for this kind of bike? Does anyone have a rough idea of how much it would cost to return it to its original form?
Thanks again.
Any other advice would be great!
Nick.

Sorry, forgot to ask... the best place to buy original parts?

In the "topics" portion there is a category for where to buy parts. Not too lazy to tell you myself, just alot easy this way.Second line down from very top of the page.Good luck!
not in the US...keys still in... good one!

Two nations separated by a common language! It wasn't the km/hr that got me on that track. It was the "accent". I live in the US but I was born in the UK. Good luck with the bike. As everyone else has said, it should be salvageable. I will be interested to see if it is a 1971.

If, you post the serial number, I can tell, you the year. there are several places to get parts, for these bikes. Thats one of the reasons I like them, so much. vintagecb750.com is a great place, tasclassicmotorsports.com is another, and jerrysmotorcycleparts.com are some I recommend (just stay away from oldbikebarn.com) There are also several suppliers in the UK, for these bikes.
To put your bike back in tip top condition, and back on the road should not cost much, however to return it to original stock showroom condition would be very expensive. There has been some mild customization done on the bike, and to find, and replace with the original parts can be done, just expensive. However in my opinion stock sucks! And your bike does have some very cool wheels on it!
Oh, and vintagecb750.com has new wiring harnesses, for $75.00 US

Hi Again.
I have discovered that the bike is actually a 1975 FK2. According to the reg anyway.
I think this will be big job but I will post pic's and updates as I go along. Again, any tips or advice that can be offered would be much appreciated.
Cheers!
Nick.
