Help Please.... - trying to put stock air box back onto a 82 CB750f

mazdarules
Hello - I am really hoping someone can help me.  I purchased a nice condition 1982 CB750F last year and it was running pod air filters.  I have the stock airbox, but I can not figure out HOW to put it on??

Does the 82 airbox split in 2 to more easily install?
I have fairings off, battery out, etc.
I just cant get it to fit in and join to carbs.
Do I have to remove carbs?
This is NOT my bike, but very that is the model.....

Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately you must remove the carbs.

Shoot - that does make sense.  Guess it is time to find the repair manual and look at carb removal :-(
I am somewhat handy, anyone have a rough idea time to take carbs off, put in stock airbox, then reassemble?  I have all tools handy.
Thx for the help guys, really appreciate it!!

You can download a manual fro free from the manual thread at the top of the home page here. As for how long it should take, 1-2 hours.

Some might say it takes less time, but if you've never done it before, it could easily take an hours.

A 12mm socket will get the seat and tank off. Two 10mm wrenches for the throttle cables. A phillips screwdriver for the carb clamps and choke cable

Be careful not to bend or stress and of the throttle cable brackets on the carbs themselves. The throttle cable bracket is pretty tall (lots of leverage)and only held on by one little bolt. It's near impossible to get the "pull" throttle cable apart from the carb itself while still on the bike. And loosen the cables from the mounting bracket, but the tips of the cable will still be in the linkage. Remove the choke cable and the "push" cable completely from the cabrs and swing out of the way, then pull the carbs out of the boots, then you can turn the carbs "back-side down" to get the "pull" cable off. Sounds weird,I know<but it loops around kinda funky. You'll see it soon.lol A small pick helps a lot right there.

You will see a long oval slot in the frame behind where the tank bolt is. That is the hole for your airbox bolt. It is slotted so you can shove the airbox back and bolt it in the position while you wrestle the carbs back in to place.

Sadly, with the airbox in place, you wont be able to lay the carbs on their backs to reinstall the "pull" cable, so that will be fun,but doable.

Getting the airbox boots on the carbs is a paaain. I heat gun helps alot.

Good luck! Sounds worse than it is. If you've never done one before it could easily take an hour. Patience is a virtue though. No need to hurry. Enjoy your quality time with your motorsickle.
