Help with Fuse blowing

DonMan900
I have a 75 cb750.  It only have the 1 15A main fuse.  My bike runs fine, but the fuse always goes when I turn on my taillight.  All the headlight and signals work fine prior to turning the tailight switch on.  Do I have a bad ground? Is it my taillight switch?  Where do I start to fix the problem?

I run a 20 amp circuit breaker on my bikes. What, you probably have is a short in one of your light wires, or the connection at the fuse holder is bad causing it to overheat, and blow the fuse. I also replace the fuse block with the wire in blade type fuse holders.

I know I was having the same problem when I first got the bike and realised someone put a 10amp fuse in the main fuse spot, I did some google-ing and found that there is supposed to be a 20amp fuse there, so I put one in it and it hasn't blown yet so hopefully thats all the problem is.

Thanks for replying,  I ran a 20 amp and it still blew.
Tools...My bike has a 3 fuse glass holder type.  A 5 amp, 7amp and 15Amp Main.  When I bought the bike from the PO it only was only running the 15Amp main fuse.  The other 2 holders were empty.  Would this be why the fuse is blowing when the taillight switch is turned on?  The added load of the taillight is overheating the fuse?

Yes that could do it. Just cut the fuse box off, and wire in three of the blade type fuse holders. Use 7 amp, for the headlight, and 7 amp, for the taillight. Then get a 20 amp blade type circuit breaker, and no more problems.

What type of circuit breaker did you guys use as a replacement? Is there a tutorial around showing the install?

Thanks!

Just go to any auto parts store, and ask for a wire in blade type fuse holder, and then ask for a blade type circuit breaker. You will need some wire connectors if you are doing all the fuses, and if you are doing the main on a DOHC, you will need two terminal ends with 1/4" holes.

The main fuse is supposed to be a 15 amp fuse. I don't know why a 20 would be used when it isn't needed. I run a 14 in my 78 and it has never blown. You have a creeping issue somewhere and it will get worse I think.
