I live in much the same type of area you do. Bikes are overpriced, even complete piles of crap are overpriced. Around here, people will sell basketcase Irons that needs a ton of work, for $3000.

As said already, it would be better to find a different cb to cafe. The reason the sohc is used is that it lends itself to the look with minimal work. The dohc has different frame/tank geometry and the look is much harder to achieve. I get the money issue though. I have 2 kids in various activities and it really cramps any thing bike related.

I drove 2 hours today to see that '74. It was the biggest POS I've ever seen. He was willing to take $350 for it (down from his $750 asking price) but I seriously doubt it's ever worth the $350. I turned around and drove the two hours back empty handed.
The search continues........

Well that SUCKS.  Sounds like the guy needed money. Think he would have taken less?

Re: Hi all!

I offered him $300 but he countered with $350 and said it's as low as he could go.
I found another one for $850 but it's 3+ hours away and I'm not excited about the drive after my trip today.

Ask the seller to send you lots of pictures so you can get a good feel before you drive out.

Re: Hi all!

I did but they were pretty creative when they took them. I'm talking to someone else about a '76, he's 130 miles away and I told him to take VERY detailed pics if he wants me to come look at his bike.

Re: Hi all!

I thought about doing that but don't want the hassle. I'm still keeping an eye out for a '78 or earlier CB750, just one in a little better shape.

Well, to make your search easier, there is no 79 sohc! 69 -78, though unless you get lucky, as in 700 million powerball lucky, you wont find a cheap 69-70.

Re: Hi all!

I know, I've found a few '79's but passed them over in hopes of finding a SOHC.
I'll keep looking. Who knows, I may get lucky (with finding a bike AND winning $800+ million Powerball lol)
