How Do I Remove The Fuel Strainer?

TheLastJoker
Hey guys, my project here has been in the works for about 2 months and my gas tank how been sitting stagnant for a while now because I can't figure out how the in tank fuel strainer is supposed to come out, if it is removable at all.  I don't want to toss in a handful of nuts and bolts and shake with this piece still installed.  Is it removable? And if so, how is it reinstalled?  BTW, it's a '78 F

It was supposed to stay on the shut of valve. It must be stuck in with old fuel varnish. Spray some carb cleaner around it with a rag wrap around the threads to catch the excess to help free it up. don't get any on the paint it will eat it up. It should pull out. Maybe a wood dowel to push on it from the top.

Thanks!  The tank hasn't been painted yet so I'm not too worried about protecting the finish, but does this mean that it broke off and I should be getting a new shut off valve?

No you don't have to replace it unless its damaged while removing it or if the screens are torn. Just clean it put it back in and install the valve it is supposed to be like it is it just seals against the rubber gasket in the valve

Hey thanks for the help!  I was able to knock it loose with a metal rod and then pull it out undamaged with pliers.
