How do I lower my bike???

s2k006
Hey Folks, I havent been here in a while.
Bike is down for the winter, but I want to do some work to it before I start riding again.
I dont want to bob it or chop it, but I would like to lower the rear end a little bit.
For looks and for comfort.
Any suggestions?

BTW, it's a '79 cb750k and I love it!!

Thanks, Steve

Buy shorter shocks.  I think the Custom might have been lower stock, also?

I bought shorter shocks on JT Whitney for my bike. It lowered it for me very nice.
They were about 80 bux.

JC Whitney also sells a lowering kit for these pretty cheap. They are a set of blocks that bolt on the chain tensioners to the shocks. It moves the shocks to the rear and lowers the bike about two inches.

the lowering blocks tend to make you bottom out especially if you're the larger side of riders.

'turning down the shocks' will not actually change the ride height per se, it only changes the preload.  you can turn down the shocks which let you sit lower by lowering the preload but you'll also suffer from a much softer ride.

i've known people to increase the preload on the shocks but then move the frame mounting point forward changing the effectiveness of the shock (moving it forward will make the ride softer, then counteract by increasing preload)

or buy the shorty shocks.

you may want to lower the front end a bit too to keep your ride even...

well this is what i did on my ride. i took off the rear shock and spring assembly by removing whole assembly from the bike then removing both shim locks this alows access to the spring i then chopped off about an inch and a 1/2 or two loops
reassembled and did the same for the other side. now for up front.  make sure the bike is on center stand ,if you have one, i didnt,  jack stands work just make sure the front is off the ground. unscrew the shock spring access nuts on the top of each fork ...be carefull they can shoot out or not come out at all if thats the case tap it with a small mallet.then it should come out take a hack saw i used a skill saw with a metal cutting blade and took off about 2 inches up front dropped the springs back in tightened top lock nuts to spec and thats all she wrote ... now i dont knee slide on my cafe or push her to the limit so i dont recomend you to if you try this remember safety 1st good luck

Nice Bike.  I'm looking into rear shocks myself.  I have a 73 CB750 four.  It's got all the looks/preformance of a cafe.  My question/s is this: What length shocks do I buy?  How do I measure the ones on the bike to find out what's on it?

.....thought this relates to the first post......Thanks.
