How much header wrap is needed

seestheday
So, I think I'm going to put header wrap on my bike.  I don't really want to spring for a new set of headers right now, and my current ones are looking beat up and have surface rust.

I figured I would buy some header wrap to buy some time and pick up new headers/exhaust if I need them after a year or two.

I'm also planning on doing some rust convertor treatment prior to putting the wrap on to make the headers last longer.

Any idea on how much wrap I'll need?  The rolls aren't cheap.  One 50' x 2" rolls seems to go for about $65 + shipping.

Update for anyone who searches for this later. Apparently it can be done with one 50ft by 2 inch roll with 1 inch overlap but just barely.

I've seen recommendations to use gloves and soak in water beforehand to make it easier.

Gloves are optional; I didn't get a whole lot of fiberglass embedded into my hands that some soap didn't resolve.

Dipping in water is quite essential. Helps with forming the wrap around the pipe.

I never did my bike (thinking about it though this time around) but I did the Integra a while ago. Definitely looks awesome, and helps quite a bit with keeping the heat in the exhaust!

Hmm... well I like this price: http://www.ebay.com/itm/50ft-BLACK-2-wide-Fiberglass-Exhaust-Pipe-Header-Wrap-tape-kit-w-6-SS-Ties-/171026527562?pt=Race_Car_Parts&hash=item27d1f9b54a&vxp=mtr

Why do some come with zip ties and others don't?  Do the ones that come without zip ties have an adhesive?

Wow! That's a deal. You need the metal tie wraps to hold the wrap where it starts, and stops. Some people use hose clamps to hold it. I have never heard of any with an adhesive.

I just got a call back from the local ceramic/powdercoating place.  They can do a high heat powdercoat for $160 (good to 1200F ) or ceramic coat for $260 (good to 2400 F or something similar).  Cleaning up the surface rust is included.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the cheap wrap and see how it goes.
