So i started to mock up my oil tank/inner fender/battery holder up in my bike last couple of nights.

Im also wondering your guys opinion on oil flow, cooler plumbing. Was thinking about coming out of motor up to a front mounted cooler, then return cooled oil back to tank. Out bottom of tank to motor.
Not sure if return side would work. Also if my math, well my I phone math is correct, my tank will hold about 4 qts. Dont know if having 4 qts in tank would be to much. Plus the the cooler and lines.

Very nice! Your best bet would be to measure your oil tank. The entire stock oil capacity is 3.7 qts. I cant remember right off but I think the oil tank holds around 54 oz of oil with 20 ox of air space. I measured it once and the numbers are on this site somewhereFor years, the chopper guys have been using the magic number of 2 1/2 quarts for oil tanks-total-oil and air, and have had no  problems.

I also have a set of cases without the VIN#. However mine do not even have the pad. All my research indicates replacement cases.

Shiny thanks for info. We are both into racing and there isnt a magic number for oil capacity in my dry sump motors, every one of my trucks holds a different amount depending on tank and hoses. But i dont know if there is a "to much" on sohc.
Also what is your thought on pushing return oil through cooler then to tank.
been looking arount the net cant find any info on it.

Thanks Tools, ya mine has the pad, dont know if they had factory warrenties back then.  Anybody here an old Honda tech in the 70's? Did they replaced cases or just put in a new motor?

The return line off the tank gravity feeds to the engine. No pressure there. Luckily, the port on the oil pump that feeds.off this hose has a check valve so you don't have to worry about flooding the sump
Typically when running an oil cooler people use a sandwich adapet behind the filter. To be honest I.don't think a cooler is needed. I have one on the chop cuz it looks right on there. I've run my cafe ragged to the point where I felt sorry for it and have never seen the oil temp above 160-180. Long runs at highway speeds ( 5 k rpms for 20+ min) have raised my oil temp to 200 in 100+ degree weather. A few minutes in town and its back to 140-160 where it stays most of the time.

There has to be pressure on return side of motor cause it has to push it back to top of tank which is higher then motor. Oil into motor from tank is gravity. Just a guess. Am I way off? I was thinking of running cooler for looks more then cooling. I don't think it needs it either.

I think you and I are just calling different hoses by different names

When you said return line I was thinking of the hose that runs from the tank back to the engine.

The hose off the side of engine that delivers oil to the tank is not under full oil pressure (70-80 psi max.) like the hoses that would come out of an oil filter sandwich adapter. If you pull the cap off the oil tank on a stock bike while it is running you can see the oil bubbling around, but not jettiing out under actual operating engine oil pressure. I suppose you could put a cooler inline there, but I would be afraid of the restriction. I don't know how much pressure is really available at that port. A cooler and lines may cause to much restriction and not allow the tank to refill properly. You'd end up with a flooded sump at first, then a tank-to-pump line sucking air. That would suck! Of course,I dont know all this to be FACT. Just trying to imagine it in my mind. It may work just fine. It'd be interesting to know just how much pressure IS at that port actually

I also found this. I dont think it has anything to do with nut in oil pan. I would think that if nut went through pump I would be completely junk. Motor still had good pressure.
