I went down today

This afternoon I was on my way to class going up main street by the Plaza. All the sudden I saw two girls jaywalking right into my path. They were looking right at me, but just kept walking. There was a car to my right trying to keep from hitting them, and a construction crew paving the road to my left. I had nowhere to go, so I hit the brakes. The paving crew had the lane I was covered with sand, dire, and small gravel. It was like ice. I went down hard, and fast on my left side, the whole time watching the girls still walking into my path. The toolmatic came down onto my left leg, and hip. We then slid on my left side for several feet. At one point the toolmatic turned to the side and started to slide off of me. I thought I had stopped, but then it grabbed my leg, and took me a little further. My whole left side is killing me from my calf to my left hand. My hip, and arm/hand took the brunt of the fall. I thought I had a broken hip, and had, but the ER took X-rays, and a CAT scan, and reported nothing broken.
There was a police officer right behind me in traffic. He and the construction workers came over, and got the toolmatic off my leg, but would not let me get up. Soon other officers, and the fire dept showed up. One of the officers took over. He would not let me arrange for my roadside assistance to pick up the toolmatic. He called for a tow, and had it taken to the city impound lot. After I was released from the hospital I tried to get my insurance to arrange for the tow lot to release the toolmatic, and bring it home. They just gave me a runaround, so I told them to go F@#$ themselves, and went up and got it myself. I was able to get some guys from the truck repair shop across from the the tow lot to help me load it it into the toolhauler. I'll be Damned if I was going to let the toolmatic sit in an impound lot. What got me was the way the counter person treated me. No such thing as respect there. It cost me $240.00 to get it out. A 5 mile tow, and 5 hours storage. Not only was I in an accident, but I was butt F#$%^& by the city. All because these two girls thought they owned the street, and were entitled to cross whenever, wherever they wanted, and traffic should just yield to them. Also I was holding onto my new 400 UV optically correct blue light blocking glass that I just got two weeks ago from my Optometrist, and the Cop took them from me. They never made it to the hospital with me, and they were not with the toolmatic. I wonder if I will see them again?

Wow.

First, I hate that you're hurting ( I know that exact feeling...), but I'm happy to hear it wasn't worse!

As far as the rest of the story? Well, you know views on "them".

I know the feeling.  I quit riding for over 20 years after going down in spilled road-base on a highway on-ramp.  You probably have the cops name on the report, and hopefully he will own up to the glasses.  Also, if he was right behind you, did he cite the girls for jaywalking?   Heal up and mount up

Ouch. I'm glad you're OK.  The bikes are just machines, and can be repaired or replaced. Femurs and hipbones are a bit harder to come by than forks and pistons.  As was told to me many years ago, it's not IF you drop your bike, it's WHEN.

I'm sure you'll analyze it over and over, trying to think what else you could have done. Looks like you were hemmed in, with no clear path of escape.

As far as the efforts of your city's finest, that's about normal. They get revenue from the tow and storage. Maybe they were more concerned about traffic stoppage.

Heal up completely.  Praying for you.

I could go on a rant about some police and stupid people these days, but it wouldn't matter. What really matters is that it was not worse and that you should be 100% again fairly soon. As luke said, the bike can be fixed much easier and cheaply than you can. I guess, if anything, the slight silver lining is you can work on the bike while you heal up.

Mend well, bud.

My good buddy has gone down on his Harley twice just this week.  First time he was being an idiot, this last time was due to the ignorance of others.  Some assholes hanging out their car celebrating the Giants' victory in San Francisco the other night merged into his lane, while apparently looking right at him giving him the thumbs up, and he had no where to go but oncoming traffic, so he tried to jump up on the median.  Bike went down on him and all.  He shares y'alls opinion on the City and the police, so he got the thing up and got the hell out of there fast as he could before anyone showed up and told him not to, even in the pain he was in.  Shame that that's the best we can all do, especially when none of it is really our faults...

The scary thing is, I might be seriously hurt. Since I stopped taking the pain medicine on Sat, my back has been hurting right between the shoulder blades, and I have had a nagging headache. I have an appointment to see my Doctor Thur. I am sure he will want to stuff me into an MRI machine. I hate those things! I cannot stand being unable to move, and feeling trapped.
