Ignition Auto Advance

'72-750
Hi all,

I'm in need of some assistance. I have got my K2 on the road and it starts, idles and runs great through low to mid rpm. But when I twist on hard or get up to high rpm is starts to miss and carry on.

I am suspicious of the ignition advance curve. After I set it with a light at idle to the 'F' mark, it takes very little rpm change to throw out to full advance. I have cut down the springs a few loops which is holding it better, however, it still doesnt take much twist of the throttle (nowhere near full rpm) to throw it out to full advance. I bought a new auto advance unit from Japan and it does the same thing.

I have put pod filters on which have no restriction to air flow at all so im also not sure if this is causing issues with the timing advance...

anyone had this before?

thanks

The pod filters will most definitely  cause the problems you describe.

No pods will not do anything with this. The advance is purely rpm based. It works on a centrifugal principle.
The advance moves and as it moves, the weights slowly overcome the springs and bang, you have your advance.

Now, full advance happens soon, 2300 - 2500 rpm and you now have full advance. The advance mechanism is completely mechanical and is based solely on rpm. Nothing else matters as far as the advance is concerned.

His advance is working. Read his first sentence. He is describing the bike leaning out due to the pods.

I was more addressing his thought that the advance might have something to do with it. Then I thought it was a great time to put on my jump to conclusions shoes and thought you meant pods would affect the advance. I like to try these shoes on once in a while but they just never fit quite right. Always something wrong it seems.
