Ignition coil (upgrade)

Maximum Carnage
Hello,

The OEM ignition coil is a good replacement and readily available but what are you replacing it with if you WANT to "upgrade" and get an aftermarket one or is everyone staying with the OEM?

Should the replacement have resistance of 5 Ohms or 2.5 Ohms?

I have an electric ignition (points eliminated).

Interesting, I have an electric ignition with stock coils.
On cb750supply.com
Part #: CB-70511 says
"This coil has a resistance of 2.5 Ohms for PAMCO or other electronic ignitions."

Part #: CB-70616 says
primary resistance is 5 Ohms

Which would you suggest?

Depends on your ignition. IF you still use points, the 5ohm coils are best. You CAN use 3 ohm coils, but it will chew through your points and condensers much faster.
If you use electronic, you CAN use 5 ohm coils but your spark energy is less, though the spark is supposed to last slightly longer. The 3 or lower ohm coils with have a stronger spark to them. Some ignitions require lower ohm coils for best operation.

I have a dyna S and the 5 ohm coils are perfectly fine for that system.
