Ignition / turn signal help needed!

dramsell
My bike is a 1978 CB 750K that for the most part has always ran well until I went out to ride a while back.

I took the bike out of the garage and the bike would not start-no lights, nothing.  So I checked the battery, the fuses and all was good.  I jumped the solenoid with a screwdriver and it turned over.
I then moved to the ignition switch.  When I jiggled the key i got power, so naturally I assumed it was the ignition switch.  I took the switch out and replaced it, and she lit up-great!

But I then noticed that the turn signals did not blink (they had before the ignition switch change), they just stayed on and when the turn signal switch was on, each side would get brighter.  The low beam headlight also did not function at all.  Replace the blinker relay (excuse the lack of correct names), but made no difference.

So, I took the headlight out and started checking for wires that had became loose inside the rats' nest inside the headlight.  Did not find any, so put the light back in and the low beam now works-but still no headlight.

The bike runs fine, I just have no turn signals.

I think this is a matter of a green wire (ground) being loose, but I really do not have the knowledge to track it down.  Does this sound like the problem?  Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

Have you put the old switch back on? just as a test to see if those functions come back? if they do, then I would have to suspect the new switch is somehow either dead or not really made for our bikes.

I have to ask though, you are on the sohc4 forums right?
I used to be there till about a month ago or so. Can here to make a new start, hence the name re-run.
Just seemed to be too much schoolyard style bullying from a few people. Maybe I deserved it.

Anyways, put the old switch in if you still got it and see if the flashers and headlight work again.

Well the old switch broke as i took it off-so good idea but it won't work. But would the ignition switch have anything to do with the turn signals blinking?

Well the switch does allow the accessories to work. So maybe it is preventing something from making contact? Something inside the switch. Another idea might be that the wiring is wrong. I know these switches are supposed to use the same plug as the original but maybe not. maybe the wiring has to be switched around in the connector.
Is it a honda switch or something like an emgo?

Good thoughts but both are honda.  I cannot believe it is wiring wrong, must be a ground somewhere.

Ok, the original post did not clarify what brand switch. AS it is honda, I would have to agree with you.
I cant come up with anything that the switch should have affected. When I get home tonight, if it is not raining, I will try to see if anything jumps out that might be a cause.

OK I did not have much time to really dig last night but from what I can see, the switch will turn on the blinkers but should not alter weather or not they flash. I know that by the flash unit, there is a green wire that connects to nothing on my bike. I have a US model, I assume you do too. This wire I think is used on canadian or european models but is still there just so honda did not have to make 2 harnesses.

Now does your head light work? I am confused by that. Is it the low beam that works and not high?
it seems to me I had issues kinda like this and it ended up being the switch on the grip. I had to clean them both out and one was missing the little ball bearing inside. Maybe in pulling the ign switch off, somehow those wires got pulled a little. Maybe check out the switchs in the grip.
