That speedometer looks difficult to see while you're driving....

the brake master cylinder reservoir is indeed the blue thing, A- its not the one for the bike so you will need to see that it has a diameter appropriate to single or dual discs up front (didnt look at the pics close enough to tell) the stamp for size should be on the underside of the master cylinder (part with the brake lever on it) the res should be mounted by a res mount on the bars not just band clamped to the forks.
Good catch, Tcazes. That reservoir will not even function where it is, shoddy mounting aside. It's too low and won't feed the fluid into the master correctly.

thanks buddy.
yea the low speedo tach was a cycle x thing last i recall, their description was who cares if you cant see it. its still cool. so, id say negative on that one.
she could sit on it im sure but will it handle bumps etc without bending? if it will bend it will break.
i mean hell to be honest for an absolute project classification, have them put the speedo back where it goes, see if they have the tach for it as well, and mount the brake master res the proper way and you could fix the rest. atleast thats how i see it.
with a proper paint job and a little tlc to get that red off the engine i think she could be a beauty. there is always potential in every situation
also what is with the riser bars turned into massive pull backs? lol

Thing is, if they're building you a cafe, well, most anything goes.
The one thing in this deal that is almost a sure thing, you aren't getting that 1,100 back.
Lay on them, make sure all what they do works.
That thing needs to pass your States inspection to get a tag.
I has to stop. It has to charge the battery and keep the light's working,
for more than 4 hours of riding. It needs a horn. Without fenders, you can't ride in the rain.
Who knows, when it's all said and done, you might have a one of a kind, great lookin' cafe.
But yea, lay on them, they've got their money, any more is icing on the cake for them.
Make sure they deliver what they said they would.

Ok I will let them know about the master cylinder. It wouldn't be to hard to fix that right? As for the handlebars I have no clue, I thought they were just clubmans but it does look like they just pulled them back. That shouldn't be to hard to change out either right? Going to go look at her tomorrow. I'm excited!
|
|
Not hard at all. If you want clubmans let me know and I'll seek you mine. I want motox style bars instead. I just put mine on andwhile the are comfy iI'm just not feeling the look off welds up and they are uncomfortable as shit welds down.
|
|
Cool. I'll take a look at them! Ok so tomorrow when I go what I'm looking for is charging system, brakes, the master cylinder, oil and filter, bushing in the swing arm, and to see if the seat is as reliable as they say it is. Am I missing anything else? Again thanks guys for your help. I noticed that the choke cable is on the handlebars is this normal?
|
|
So on the bmc where exactly does it go? I've tried to find pics for examples but can't find any.
|
|
the bmc should have the res attatched to the brake handle itself actually, he has an aftermarket res on there that would have a mount to hold it right above the brake handle with the hose going from it down to the mc itself.
your list is pretty good but check the sparkplugs as well to see how the engine is running. atleast to give a hint at whats happening internal. check for leaks on the forks too. that should be enough for basics. also if you can see any wiring check and see if it is soldered together or just cheapo crimp together with some electrical tape around it. electrical tape is sketch imo pull it off and check out the connection point. double check the chain and its sprockets, if the sprockets are worn it may be time to change those too, are the teeth all uniformly worn in? are the pints sharp or nicely somewhat flat on top? that should get you going
the choke is good right there just make sure it pulls out smoothly, pull it as far out as possible to make sure its not broken, pull it out, see if it holds there etc.
i say offer absolutely no more than 15 since you cant get the 11 back you already paid.
i almost forgot, i see no mirrors, mirrors are required by law. atleast the left side (correct me if im wrong, i know here in louisiana we need both, got my ass a ticket with just one)

There's no way this guy will take 1500, he bought it for 1000 and "went through" the whole bike. Sounds like he fixed most of the problems it had. Also all electrical work was done. But I will look at all the connections. As for the chain and sprocket it looks solid. I'll just bite the bullet with this one. It is alot of money but hopefully this will last me a long time. With proper care of course

Don't get to down on yourself and the bike. If they do all the repairs they say and do it right you are getting a nice bike. Mechanics harge alot for their services. Just make sure you go over the bike well before taking posession of it. If treated well these bikes will last forever, just look at all the bikes on this site. You have done the right thing in reaserching and repeatedy looking over the bike. And if you do have problems with it in the futer consider it the charm of riding an old bike that will get alot of attention. You have great guys on this site that will get you all the info you need for repairs. Now get on tha bike, get that blond on the back and enjoy!

I'll keep you guys updated. I'm going tomorrow to take a real good look at the work they've done. Also picked up some caliper paint to spray the red part of the engine all black. Can I use this stuff for the handlebars also? They look a little worn out.
|
|
Paint doesn't stick to crome to well. If you are going to do it ge them sand/soda basted or atleast take some sandpaper to them and scuff them up alot. To be honest you coul get a black set of bars pretty cheap, and in a style you might like better.

Hey, you found something a lot of guys would love to have.
A shop that will actually work on a 1980's Honda 4.
The payments might be a blessing in disguise.
I mean, if it breaks, what are they gonna do?
They're gonna want to keep that thing running,
keep you happy, keep that cash flow.
Hey guy, you get that thing sorted out, be careful.
It's a lot of bike.
