K2 jumping out of first gear

273nic
Hi All,

my K2 is jumping out of 1st gear, goes into gear and accelerates nicely until around 3000 rpm when it jumps back into neutral. It will idle & rev on centre stand in 1st gear without a problem, seems under load is the issue. I've taken to pulling away in 2nd but fear this will only lead to a burned clutch or worse if I continue.

Before I consider taking the engine out to get to the transmission to look for worn dogs & bent shift forks is it possible something more simple like the selector could be the problem - or is this just wishful thinking?

The reason i ask is most people i've spoken to say it's usually 2nd & 3rd gear with the problem, so was hoping 1st gear might indicate something less sinister like maybe the gear selector arm, spindle, drum or return spring? if its possible can you also suggest how I might test this scenario.

Any advice appreciated.
Cheers

You are just going to have to pull the cover, and inspect things. It might be the selector, but more then likely the dogs on the gears.

Thanks.

Sorry should have said already pulled the cover and all looks ok (to someone who doesn't know what to look for). Ive put into 1st gear and wiggled the selector and tried to turn rear wheel by hand and it doesnt pop out.

Any advice what else to look for or how to check selector is ok? Can the selector return spring lose it's tension causing the selector to slip back into neutral? TBh it feels like something's pushing back into neutral as I''ve tried to hold my foot on lever to stop jumping out and there is quite a force pushing upward into neutral.

Cheers for any more advice before I have to pull the engine out.
