Loose Tach cable screw

atomsk
I am at a lost at the moment. I found the source to an oil leek on my '79 cb750. The cause of my oil leek comes from where the tach cable connects to the engine. The screw that tightens it came loose.  The problem is that I cannot tighten the screw into the engine.  If anyone has a solution, please help.

The screw is not the problem, it's the seal that is leaking. You need to replace it.

It's a famous leak. About $ for the seal. Use a screw that barely fits the old seal, screw it in and pull it out. New one slips right in.

So, is it correct that the screw tighten onto the seal and that the old seal needs to be pulled out before I put in a new one?

After removing the the screw that is worrying you, you pull the tach cable out. Then take a wood screw, and screw it into the old seal, and pull the old seal out. Then install a new seal.

I've ordered my seal. But I still don't know what to do about the screw. By loose, I mean it does not tighten at all.
