This post was updated on .
Hi everyone, new member here so i will be looking up to you guys when the the search button fails me, lol.

I recently bought a 76 CB750 done in cafe taste.  I bought it not too far from my area,  just under an hour.  Don't have a license yet, working on it.  So I didn't get a chance to put it through the paces.  I bought just hearing it running.  Told the the owner if he could drop it off because I've been working a crazy shift that my company came up with.  One week later it was in my garage when I got home, took a 5 minute glance at it and went to bed.  Two weeks later I really got a chance to look at it.  I knew it needed work but it's funny how people don't tell you straight up on what's wrong with the bike.  No starter button, kickstart only unless I use a screwdriver.  As far as trying to wire up the solenoid no luck,  just a screwdriver.  Front MC no fluid just a crumbled up paper towel.  None of the controls work, I pulled the headlight housing apart.  None of the connections are made up.  The wiring harness is a nightmare.  Electrical wire nuts and nothing is fused.  No turn signals.  The brake light might as well not work.  Wish me luck guys.

Lesson learned. Before buying a bike make sure you find out what works and what doesn't work.  If you can drive it yourself bring someone along that can and with the information you gather then you negotiate the price.

Here's my list of parts that I ordered.  While I'm waiting for those parts to arrive I will do a full inspection of the bike. To tell you the truth I don't know how the previous owner drove it to my house.  I guess he doesn't value his life as much as he should.
Harness
Solenoid
Fuse panel
Carpy's Turn signals
Carpy's Tail light
Carpy's exhaust
Carpy's Air pods
Carpy's Mirrors
Bridgestone tires
Carpy's speedo bracket only
Carpy's neutral light
Carpy bracket to keep the kickstand from hitting the chain.

Pics!

And wow, you've definitely got a long list there. Did you inspect it at all prior to purchase? Or did you mostly just say "It runs, awesome!" and hand cash over?

I am scared about the needing-a-screwdriver-to-start part. Not safe whatsoever. I'd be getting your electrical sorted out first.

Good luck, and let us know if you need anything man!
Turbos, Hondas, 4-bangers, what could go wrong?

Hi

Pics will be coming soon.  I did ask if there were any issues.  Only issues mentioned were that the solenoid didn't work and that the starter button was broken.  There was no starter button.  No button no nothing, lol.  You live an you learn.  I think of it on the bright side.  At least I didn't pay a lot o money for this bike.  Tell that to my wife.

I recieved most of my parts but I'm busy working today, double shift.  I did try to remove one of the bolts that holds the exhaust clamps late last night.  I just about round off the one bolt head but I stopped before I completely chewed it apart.  I guess I'll try PB.  I'll have to do it tomorrow because I want to warm up the exhaust before I spray and I can't do it tonight because the bike is way too loud.

The was only able to remove the one of two caliper bolt from the front.  What is the size of the Allen bit that I need for those bolts?  The one that I can't remove was already chewed up by the previous owner.  Thank God it's winter or my whole summer would be out the window.

Haha!  Funny.  Worst case was just putting new tires on plus a full inspection before going on the road.  Plus I wanted to make it my own.  I guess I got my wish.  I wanted to get most of my items from one place and Carpy got my attention.

Yea, exhaust nuts / studs can be a real bear. Countless heat cycles over the years can sieze them tighter than a Nuns ****. PB Blaster and heat either from running the engine is a good idea... but a or a propane torch  on the nuts may be better to keep the studs from coming out of the head. (unless that is what you want to replace)

Re: My 1976 Honda CB750K Cafe Racer

Last night I got home around ten and spend about one hour in the garage.  I started the engine with my trusty screwdriver and ran the engine until it was warm, of course with the garage door opened.  I then proceeded to blast liquid wrench on the exhaust clamp bolts.  I did it several times and used a six point wrench.  All four bolts cracked loose so easily.  A little engine heat and liquid wrench works wonders.  My next step is how to remove the exhaust flange clamps without breaking them.  Any suggestions?

The starter button is completely missing.  Button cover and the internal switch.

Thanks everyone who has responded so far.

Welcome! One of my Honda's was missing the starter button and I was looking to buy the whole switchgear but then I found a guy selling brand new OEM buttons on eBay, problem solved for cheap. His username is dgs38. I see he's listing them for up to 1974 model year right now but it wouldn't hurt to ask him. He was a real friendly guy. Good luck with your new bike!

Or if you take the p/n given there, plug into Google...

http://www.powersportsplus.com/parts/detail/honda/HP-35130-377-P00.html ($86.25)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-START-STOP-SWITCH-CB360-CB400-CB550-CB750-GL1000-35130-377-P00-/190629005481 ($86.49 +$6 shipping)

I think the last post, and last site in this one, are outrageous personally. Go with one of the top 3 in this post.
