To tune a carb you first tune the main jet. This is the 3/4 - full throttle. Then the needle jet 1/4-3/4 throttle. Finally the pilot jet idle - 1/4 throttle. Now to find out how to tune your jets you do plug chops at full throttle, 1/2 throttle, and idle. To do a plug chop you take the bike down the road and get up to the rpm where the engine is operating on the circuit you want to tune. Start with full throttle, or just about full throttle. You might need to do it in 3rd gear. Once you have run for a few seconds at that throttle position pull in the clutch, and hit the kill switch at THE SAME TIME!!!! Then coast to the side of the road, and pull a plug. Then read the color. This will tell you if the jets are right on that circuit, or need to be bigger, smaller.
