'But I'm over 50."

You say that like it's a bad thing.  I hit 53 this year, and started riding bikes again just last year. I intend to ride as long as I'm able, or until I wrap the bike and myself around a tree. :-)

Were all in the same boat. At 51 I just got back on after 30 years. Luke, the day I can't ride, I'll buy a Can-Am RT-S Roadster - SE5 or a Honda Trike

Why not just put shorter shocks on the back. You have the look and you protect your spine.
OR...A spring mounted seat with 2 inch beehive springs will give you comfort and protect your spine too.
On a Roadstar Adventure.

yep gonna get some springs for sure that pic is just with the seat sitting on there, and the handle bars not bolted on , or exhaust. I am thinking 3" springs. I am going to extend the frame after the 1st of the year so just went with cheaper struts for now .

I like what your doing i have been looking for a springer front for my 82 750 or one with longer fork tubes . I relocated the bottom of the rear shocks on mine dropped it almost 3" then restricted the travel with spacers in the springs much better than all rigid or put springs under your seat
