Awesome idea Hondadog! Come to find out my chain was mispackaged and it is not an o-ring chain after all. For $20 i'm not complaining. Your trick sound like a great idea.Thank you for the advice

I'm glad I decided to search some old threads before buying a new chain. My little road trip added quite a bit of stretch to what was already an old chain. I feel like I dodged a bullet on the "factory spec" brand (the price is tempting)

I decided to go with a new rk x-ring chain. Looks like a nice chain for $90 and free 2-day shipping.

The name, "Factory Spec" sounds bogus.

That does not sound like a manufacturer name.

Sorry you got a poor product.

The modern chain lubes that you spray on, get inside the rollers and then overnight the grease coagulates
inside.

Better that wheel bearing grease.
If you do use wheel bearing grease I would use disc
brake grease which is good up to 1000ยบ degrees.
