You cant rotate your switch gear on the bars? Or were the bars pre-drilled for the dowels in the controls? You can always redrill them and  put the controls where you need them.

I can put them where I want, they are not locked down yet. I just slid them on for reference.  The issue is clearance of fork tubes and clubmans.

Does anyone know what "brand/model" tires Daddyman used on this bike.

http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/76-CB750F-Super-Sport-Cafe-Project-td3150503.html

My stockers are the same size but the tires he put on his bike look much more robust.
If anyone knows please advise.

I found them in another post he said they were Shinko 712's from motorcycle superstore.
I have them on my shopping cart along with Motion Pro armor rim strip tape, I am undecided about the type inner tubes to go with.
On one hand, you get what you pay for, on the other hand, a puncture is a puncture is a puncture whether it be in a $10 tube or a $30 tube.
Your thoughts?

I had a thought once...but it got lonely in there and left.

The only inner tube knowledge I have concerns drag racing cars. The rule there is natural rubber or bust. But the application is totally different. The tube HAS to heat/expand at the same rate as your tires. Like I said, totally different ball game. I bet SgtSlag has all the info you need on this subject.

shinyribs "you da man" the shocks are on and look great! The came in today and I got them on.

I came in from work last night and worked on the bike till about 5am this morning and got a couple things accomplished.
I greased and lubed everything, apparently the control arm has never been lubed, it was like pushing out concrete with my grease gun! Rusty sludge!
I rotated the clubmans into a much more comfortable position, I also looked and think the cable issue is going to work out, lowered the ignition/tach/speedometer by cutting some spacers out of some galvanized tubing that I had. I had to drill the seam out of the inside and painted them. The spacers for the tach/speedo are 1.5" and the ignition are 2".
Here are some pics during moc up and semi-finished.
I will shorten the bolts when I get my headlight and bucket in from speedmotoco and make sure everything is going to fit.
I got this headlight from speedmotoco because it comes complete with turn indicators/alum brackets/halogen light and bucket for $89:

Buster, I like the progress you've made so far! I'm also liking the light choice. Just wanted to let you know, I found the same one on ebay for $20.

Half-Caf good find! I am a ways off from getting to the back end but I will check eBay before I buy.

I am in search of a halogen headlight and bucket the "deal" I found at speedmotoco is out of stock, allegedly, no phone cal no email just a notice that my money was refunded because "item out of stock"!
I find that funny as all of the same parts are listed on his site just not as a "package" deal.
I bought my clubmans from him so I thought I would go back.

Anyone have a good source they like to deal with on headlights?

Re: My first Cafe Build RE-DEUX!

Seat pan and Seat Cowl mock up. I cut all of the un-necessary stuff off: seat lock, hinge, helmet hanger, frame extensions etc. I then started with some cardboard and came up with this for my seat pan. I will have a 1" hangover from the edge that you see. I have friend that has a brake and works steel and sheet metal so as soon as I can get up with him I will update.
I get the feeling the old Yamaha tank is going to be a dent magnet, as it is very thin.
When I got the tank home it had a slight knee dent in the side and it was not quite wide enough to cover the frame rails. I thought I would show my son the redneck method of getting the dent out of the tank so I put a piece of electrical tape over the internal vent holes on the gas cap and stuck the air to the petcock air opening. That thing swole up like a balloon with one quick shot! It also popped the dent out.

I had some "turdish" brown rattle can handy and I wanted to get an idea if it was going to look like I wanted so I shot the cowl with it.

Help me decide.....Should weld a 1" loop on the end of the frame BACK where I cut the extensions off and THEN cut off the frame hump/brace so that my seat pan will be flat all the way to the back?
I think that I should just not sure.

I forsee a whole lot of pzzt...pzzt...pzzt...pzzt...pzzt...pzzt.. tac welds in my future..... not fun....

I would do the hoop on the end of the rails myself. Looking good.

If it lays flat will it clear your rear tire at full compression? My first design on mine would clear. I took my springs off my ( yours now) shocks and cycled the rear suspension til it all cleared. Ended up with a hollow tail piece.

I finished fabrication on my seat, seat pan and cowl about 4:30 am today. Insomia, can't be all bad...
I used the old Yamaha tank for the cowl, a shelf left over from my shelves in the shop for the pan, the old seat cover/foam and a piece of plywood for the seat.
I made the whole unit so that it attaches as one piece bolted on via the tank bolt and turn indicator holes. When I decide on a brake light I will make it so that it quick detaches.
I cut off the brace that the rear fender mounts to and replaced it with a loop tube on the end of the frame rails, I followed everyones advice and welded it on with plenty of wheel clearance.
The "boys brown truck of joy" rolled up today and brought me my MAC 4-1 exhaust.
I got the exhaust put on and have a slight exhaust leak!
I should know better but I tried to get away with the old copper exhaust seals, guess I will go to the local Honda shop to see if they have any, but I already know the answer "naw, we aint got em, but we can order em, for $10,000.00 each".
Anyhow this is how it looks for now. I wasn't up to the header wrap but I will get to it shortly.
The exhaust sounds great and added what seems to be a substantial amount of low end torque and throttle response. But then again it may just be me.

I am still looking for a sidemount headlight bucket and can't for the life of me decide what color to paint it.

I gotta say that looks really good. It proves you can make a nice cafe out of the later model DOHC bikes! I've got the same bike (brown 79K) so I'm saving your pictures for future inspiration.

I've been sort of dismayed with mine and have been thinking about selling it and getting a 78 or earlier CB 750. I don't know if I want to now after seeing what you've done in such a short time. On the other hand the DOHC bikes can be a pain. For example, I think the seal on my countershaft (the shaft for the front sprocket) is leaking and you have to pull the engine and split the cases just to change it. What a PIA! May as well rebuild the entire engine for that much trouble.
