Need some insite on a recent offer

xgr4ndx2
Hello all you Honda People. I have been on a Honda Dirt Bike since I was around 5-6 believe it was a Honda 50 with a Harley Sticker on the Tank. Ever since motocross just stuck to me. Tried the other guys but never felt like a Honda when hitting a 100 foot gap. well if you read my sig you'll see what has brought me from ThumberT. to here but I feel I should  stay where I have had Fast, Strong, Reliable bike. OK enough Hello intro. & again Hello.

Since I'm 33 next month, 2 sons that ride and not enough $ to get hurt and pay the bills. I have to get rid of my therapist.
2002 CRF450R  with lots of care in it

I have put it up for sale for What I think is a fair price As to what is listed in local buy sell website. If buyer wants I can through in  $400 worth extra parts for additional $200 totaling $2700 for all (to much to list here)
I received a offer/ trade for this 79 Honda Blobber

Now what I need help with is I know only what I researched some  tonight. Not to hard to customize, inexpensive, some look really nice and wipe arrange of parts. Since I haven't seen one up close before is the overall size big or small, how are the motors to work on/reliability.  And last but not least whats a value  of this one by looks and what should I stay away from. I'm Pretty firm on $2500 for my CRF

Sorry for long post just wanted to get it all out there.  Thanks In advance and ill keep searching your forum as I get advice from people how like this machine and exp.

well heres the thing. cb's can generally be had for well less than 2500 for instance i got mine for 1500 and it runs just fine. first off pods are a big no no on these engines because they do not agree well with the cv carbs. they never really run right with pods and you have to jet to kingdom come, that being said that is strike one for him. he is running straight open pipes which means yes it will be extremely loud but also aid in the leanness of the motor. what jets did he put in it? it appears the ONLY things he did were a tiny little tank, a homemade springer seat, and put a hard tail on it. that being said, what kind of a welder is he? do you trust the welded on tail section? the pipes are homemade, how well did he do fabricating those? it has no blinkers or mirrors so its not street legal, you ok with that? it is up to you to decide if you think his "custom" bike is worth the extra money because it is "one of a kind" look up the nada values for the bike and year in your area then decide. to me, i feel that he is getting a fricken gem of a bike for trade for his God only knows what corners were cut, bobber. so. what do you think?

homemade hard tail
uncomfortable ass seat
pods
tiny tank so short trips only
no blinkers
no mirrors
no speedo
no tack
no known miles
homemade pipes
no front fender so dont ride in the rain
no real rear fender so it will throw junk up your back

sound convincing enough?

for your

pristine
perfectly maintained
mint condition

shall i mention more dirt bike?

Nope Say No More. Thanks for the good eyes noticed the pipes and few things. Thats why I wanted to ask plus didn't see them in same price range the more I looked.
I have to say this bike is growing on me. I find that I like them stubby with the longer Tanks, makes them look fast/sporty yet though. I could see my self on one similar to this. Whats a value on something along these features?

Whats your opinion on years pre '78' and '79" up and I would be doing most work myself besides welds in needed welds are something that stand out to me

Cool lookin little bike. Custom frame so watch for quality. Rear end atleast. Still pods so won't run to its potential, no instruments, mirrors, blinkers. At the wheels painted or powdercoated?  It's lowered so may handle like shit especially with the clip on bars. Homemade pipes again no rear suspension so it will ride rough and handle rougher.  It's a single over head cam, that's got its pros and cons. Kick start only? Wheres the battery?  No fenders so avoid rainy conditions plus the no gendered front will let rocks and pebbles and shit all up in your face

It will always boil down to what YOU truly want. I say buy or trade for a near stock bike and make it your own but that's just me. I like to start with the basics first.

Again thanks the race was just an example of look/style. Once I find something that really catches my then ill start looki g at other modz. Maybe I go check that blobber out just to besure I admire the cb. Then just pay cash really cheap. Im off work for  AT least  3 months pluss winter is close for a project. If I find anything else after more research be sure to ask here. Ill be in and out.

I have no doubt you'd love the motor. Plenty quick, good bottom end, doesn't vibrate you to death. I have ridden my share of v twins from Harleys to suzukis and love this cb. If I could I'd slap it in a more modern frame but don't even know where to start looking for a frame it'd bolt up too. Trust me on this they are addicteding, easy as all get out to work on, and sound good to just about everyone. Just a matter of getting one and putting in new rings and whatever else it needs to get it back to new for another 30 or 40k miles

Exactly. Cruise all day on a machine smooth and mellow as all get out or if a hardass pulls up next to you or tries to blow by just downshift, grab some rpm's and blast ny him like he isn't even moving.

Are they like tumper power or powerband snappy. (pipe & high rmps)
After going from a 250 2stroke to the 450 thumper. I love the speed and power of just rolling the throttle
And picking up front end up . My 450 has beat a 09 ninja 600 till I got carried away and pulled into my 5th gear.but still able to pull a wheelie just by a quit toch of the cluch. That 450 im gonna miss. If I dont im gonna get on it when I heal

why not just put street tires, lights, blinkers, mirrors on the 450 then man! everyone loves a motard style bike.

the cb has good torque off the line but roll on from like 30 or 40 and only 3 or 4k rpms and its smooth and steady to 6 or 7k where it will shoot off like a 2 stroke up in the top of its power band, all the way to redline it will scream from there. you can gear to get better bottom or top but its not like a thumper from bottom to top.

I have to ride one of these boys. Look slow when looking at a original but that v4 must pack a punch. Watched a you tube video of a racer, costumized that sporty/retro with the old duel spring rear shocks(I like)  Dont like crouch rockets, Harleys  are way over price because over exaggerated.  Any other vintage underdogs like this cb750. I live  in Illinois state university town so its not to crazy with traffic like phoenix or Chicago and girls son just bought a little ninja 250 and its a blast driving through traffic do to its size and agility and you can sit straight up on it. Not my style but defiantly a fun toy or in a big hurry and need to be across town
Got any other vintage fireball that you might recomend let me know.
