New Gas leak

zonson
I had a problem awhile back and posted on another forum. Has rebuilt carbs and had gunk in one which was stalling my bike out. Then second problem, the bike would idle high with choke not pulled up but would stall out when choke pulled up. I was told it was an air intake problem. Two of the boots werent on all the way. Today gas started leaking out of the air filter which is just behind the carbs. Any insight?

I apologize, I was trying to post this at SOHC or something. But failed. I had posted the past problems  before here: http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/Honda-77-cb-750a-Choke-cable-riddle-tc4038615.html

Gas leaks can only come from:

-Leaky bowl gaskets-Not your case since it's coming out through the carbs
-Float set too high- could be this...
-Needle and seat not sealing-...or this.

To add to shiny's list, drain tubes with hairline splits can also cause fuel leaks.

If fuel is coming out into your carb throttle bodies and into your airbox, your floats needle valves are probably not seating correctly or your floats have holes and are sinking. Your drain tubes might also be clogged up. When fuel leaks into your filter, does it also come out the carb drain tubes?

No, it used to though which is why the rebuild was done. Im leaning towards the floats though. When I took off the air box it only coming through two the carbs, not sure if that was bc it was leaning due to te kick stand. Plus I went to ride it and when Igiving it gas it starts to sputter out when in low, when in neutral it just cuts off. Not sure if there is another clog or what. Plus it does this on and off. 2 days ago I was riding it on the freeway next day I get the gas in the airtake.

Good point! Been there, done that. Somehow forgot about it. A leak there would could out of the overflow tubes, too. Anything other than a float bowl gasket leak should come out of the overflow tubes, but obviously it doesn't.

Well the drain tubes arent any issue as mentioned so I guess its just a matter of breaking down the carbs again or just resetting the valves and floats. Funny though , They are set to what the book asks for. Oh well. You loose to win.
