New Here

Thekler
Hello everyone.  I am new to the forum and wanted to say hello.  I was excited to find so much information all in one place as I just started to tear down a 1980 CB750F.  I have worked on cars most of my life but bikes seem to be a different beast.

I received this bike from my father in law who passed away 2 years ago.  He was an old biker and hot rodder so the bike was pieced together and was very dirty.  My wife wants me to give it a new life and to my surprise doesn't care how I do it.  After digging into it last night I think it would be fun to make it less "upright" with some lower bars and cleaner looking tank.

All the bikes I have owned up to this one are sport bikes.  I'm no stranger to 150mph on something that likes to see the 14k shift light pop.  3 kids later I need to relax a bit so I want to keep this a 2 person bike that could go for a trip with little complaint from the passenger (wife) but I can get on it once and while.

From the reading I have done already around here I look forward to input and advice as I go along.  This will be a long term project as money is tight and this isn't a necessity so I have time to really solidify my vision as I start to understand what is available for these bikes.

Thanks in advance for all the free information and any time spent helping out a fellow 750-4 owner.

James

Welcome! You are going to find bikes much more liberating once you get into the right mindset. It really taps the creative side of problem solving. Bars are easy enough, you can just drop on a set with a lower rise. Being you want to stay a 2 up bake, part time anyways, you may or may not want to go too  short. Personal preference though.

You won't be doing 150 on this bike, or revving so high, but don't let it fool you. They still move out when tuned well.

A tank may be more trouble, but then they are on any bike, you just have to get creative with mounting it.

One thing you should do is drop cb900 cams into it. Gives the engine a nice little bump.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
