New Horns on Fiona

Cabreco
I went ahead & installed new horns on Fiona. The OEM horns are really weak sounding so I swapped them out for a set of Fiamm Hi/Lo from a 2003 Lincoln. Why a Lincoln?

1. I like the big car sound
2. They are real easy to pull of at the junk yard.
3. The are plastic faced

Anyhow, very easy install, used a relay. The Power came from a fused line off the battery I have already. The OEM wires powered the relay without having too cut anything. And the horns grounded right to the frame. Of course I needed a few terminal ends & a few strips of 1/4 shrink tubing as well as wire wrap.

I had everything but the horns lying around so for me the cost was $8.00 for the horns at Pick & Pull!
They are loud & the blend into the blackness of the bike!

I'm not sure yet but I may turn them down so the openings point toward the ground. What do you guys think?

Here's a quick video

Ok my truck is a 2002 4x4 Explorer Sport Trac 4.0. I installed a dry cell in my truck feeding directly into throttle body. I have a Maf enhancer, an o2 sensor enhancer, a reservoir, pump, numerous flash suppressors, & gaugesages.

Ok that said, the truck gets 15.9 MPG stock. With the HHO setup I usually get 19MPG I have on occasion gone as high as 22 MPG. The problem is that it is farmaintenanceenence free. Because of the ECU, the system requires considerable tweaking to the enhancers in order to fool the cpu. The principle behind the HHO is you are abseverelyeverly lean out the gasoline mixture (which give you the better mileage) by using HHO as a catalyst to burn the gasoline more efficiently. The problem is the ECU is a PITA and makes adjustments to the fuel delivery system to compensate for the lean burn system.

Because it is so fussy, I now only use it on long highway trips.

Now if you install this on an older non ECU vehicle, you don't need half of the electronics. Once you retard the timing & add the HHO to the mix, it is set. My 1974 Beetle has a drycell in it & it went from 22 mpg to just over 30 mpg with very little maintenance.

Now in order to compensate for the electrical draw & get even better mpg (think how you car get lower MPG with the A/C on), you should power the cell with an external source. I am looking into TEGs (Thermoelectric Generator) It converts heat into electricity.

Eventually Fiona will become an HHO Hybrid. I plan on using TEGs to harness the heat off the 4 exhaust pipes to assist in running the cell since the CB750 charging system & battery is are very low power producers

So in short...old cars without computers or diesels are great for HHO. OBD1 & 2 vehicles are too fussy for a practical low maintenance application.

I bought an air horn, compressor and horn mounted as a relatively small, integrated unit (Wolo "Bad Boy Horn," I think it was called), a few years ago.  The horn pointed forward, and I could not figure out a decent way to mount it, so the horn would not scoop air, mud, and rain, as I drove.  Sold it on CL.  I did, however, pick up a Hi/Lo pair of automotive disc horns.  I suspect they need to be wired through a relay, as you did, to get their full volume (not nearly as loud as I expected them to be...).  That will make a nice Spring project.

The air horns are super-loud, but aiming them, without blocking, or pointing them the wrong way, is a challenge.  On a car, it is not nearly so critical.  If you find a way that works, please share!  Cheers!

Sgt at first as a trial fit I wired them directly to the existing horn wires the new horns barely made noise.
Definitly use a relay. Once I connected the rela the blasted!
If anyone needs the relay terminal wiring

30 to battery
87 to horns
86 to Pos horn wire
85 to Neg horn wire

Cabreco, thank you for your reply...but I dont know what HHo is? Is it a fuel of some type? I am starting to get some of this. The talk about the leaning out explains the need for EGT gauges, but I'm still lost.I dont want to ask you to type out a bunch of info.Is there a good web page to look at?Thanks !

Nicely done!  If you're curious, you can look at Harbor Freight's website and find some pretty ones for about $10.  Not sure if they're in the stores, or just online.

Those Lincoln horns sound great.  I worry that some may be looking for a car, and seeing a bike. :-)

I actually bought those horns from HF for my wife's Elantra. They sounded nice, foreign car hi pitch hi/lo sound. Unfortunately, they didn't last long. One of the 2 horns died after 4 months & the other horn sound like it has indigestion after about 6 months, and they weren't out in the open.
Not I remember where I got the extra relay from! <lol>

When my son took over the car last Sept I replaced them with the same horns from a Lincoln.
Imagine a Hyundai sounding like a Continental!

OH?
HHO is a process of making hydogen gas from an electrolysis process of water. It's also called Brown Gas.
Some claim you can "run your car on water" which is BS. It only a add on.

Here is the wiki page for it.
