I just find the sites different.
I'm also feeling like this site is starting to get a lot more people that have DOHC's, even though all of the admins are SOHC riders. Very low key here, and everyone just wants to help. I'm very happy that the influx of DOHC riders seems to be quite welcomed by the guys running this place.
This place is much more newb friendly. I was welcomed with open arms and I knew nothing (still don't know that much but I'm learning).
The others seem to be much more technically advanced, but also much less welcoming to new guys who just want to figure out why their bike stopped running. Great example of this how I'm considered to be a guy who know a decent amount about the DOHC carbs. I know what I do because I carefully read the MacGregor manual and several others and have rebuilt my carbs twice. Well, the guy that wrote the damn manual posts on the other sites...
The F site seems to not want any discussion that isn't related to F bikes, so I guess because I have a K I'm not welcome there... I try to keep my questions to a minimum there because of that.
A lot of the problems with the other forums also seem to be caused by technology.
On the other forums you have to post pictures using an image server like photobucket. On this forum you just click "insert image" and it automatically resizes the images. So on this forum newbs can't easily blow out the formatting of a page.
For some bizarre reason you have to be logged in to see a lot of the content on the other sites. This is disastrous for SEO (google etc.), and I think it's why this nabble site is starting to rank well in search and why we're getting so many more DOHC people.
The other forums appear to be hosted, and this one uses a free service (nabble). There are pros and cons to each.
For example, search on the other forums is terrible and you have to "learn" how to use it. Search on this forum is great (because the company is constantly optimizing their algorithms). You just type and find stuff. You also get the added benefit of using google to search for things (not as easy with the other forums because of the blocking issue).
A big con about the free service though is that we're effectively building sandcastles on the beach here. If at any time nabble goes away then this forum and all of the content we've generated on it is potentially gone forever.
