Word up y'all, just joined up, ive just (almost) finished restoring a 79 750kz(?). Its my 1st bike resto, just a few teething issues. Its got a slippy clutch, whch I need to ajdust off a bit, 1 leaky carb, which I think Ive traced to a u/s float, and a flat spot/ massive reluctance mid revs. Its been sat for 12/13 years prior to my doing it, and i'm relatively happy with the result so far! Would you guys be willing to view some pix? I'd love some feedback/guidance, as i'm more used to more modern sports bikes! Do I just post some pix on here, or is there a 'speshul' area for that? Damned noob! Cheers, Rustybusboy.

You left alot of valuable info. out . -- Did you rebuild carbs?? -- stock airbox ??  -- stock exhaust?? -- etc. -- Plenty of good technical help here , and on the DOHC forum as well . -- Most of these guys are pretty sharp about these bikes . -- You do need to get some form of shop manual if you haven't already . -- Oh yeah , WELCOME to the group. -- Otto

Word up again! I haven't joined a forum before, im a true noob! Regarding the bike, ive stripped the carbs and boiled 'em in lemon juice, then cleaned 'em again and again and blown thru with the airline. Then fitted the ubiquitous pod filters Its had a full bare metal repaint, rechromed forks, put new bars on it (pauses for breath). nickel plate to downpipes, collector and headlight rim, polished some aluminium, fabricated chainguard and side panels(side panels not fitted) from preforated steel.. I could go on, but instead will attempt to attach a pic....

Thats how I found it.....

this was last week...

I hope that this works, my internets are not the best, hope you like the bike, I am having rough running issues still, it doesnt seem to want to rev above 5500... Rides quite well otherwise. Brakes well, vf calipers front, possibly cbr600 rear, all with new pistons, seals and stuff. Ive since fitted grips, can strap, and a smaller plate. On the hunt for side panel badges now!

Please let me know what you reckon, its my 1st bike resto, and I quite enjoyed it! Cheers, Nick.

GOOD JOB !! -- It looks great . -- The pod filters could be a big part of your mid R P M problem . -- Stock jets don't flow enough fuel so you go lean . -- You'll need to rejet the carbs. to fix the problem . -- I think the stock jets are 105s , and you should increase to 110s . -- If no other offers of advise come through , check out www.cb750c.com ( dohc customs forum ) -- Lots of helpful hints available there as well . -- Keep up the good work , and keep the shiny side up . -- Otto

Thanks Otto, I'm gonna balance the carbs before jetting, took it out for 45 miles today, running much better since recleaning them out and blowing thru. Got a small oil leak, looks to be at oil filter housing gasket, but it will get a change of oil very soon anyway. Breather filters are weeping a bit, but im not too fussed about that.. it does have nice 3" flames from the exhaust on overrun, which I love! getting some looks out there on the roads too! I'll keep you posted. Nick.

Nick , if you have a Napa Auto Parts store near you , they have oil filter kits for these bikes . If not in stock , it's an overnight order , it comes with the o-rings as well . -- Part # is PS4940 . -- Made by WIX filters I believe . -- Cost is around $7.00 dollars . -- Easy / cheap cure for the oil leak . -- Mark -- aka -- Otto

Nice job fixing that DOHC 750 up! Looks nasty..cool. Glad you redid the frame in proper black. Why do people paint their frames ugly colors? Yuk. Your mid range does sound like blocked carb passages. As Otto said try uping the jets a little to compinsate for those Pods.

Hi there, thanks for the feedback! The frame is sweeeeeeet in black, as is everything else! Its mostly done in aircraft paint, which should be tough enough... The carbs are running better now, gave 'em a balance up, but the weather is closing in here, less opportunity to ride the beast! Ive now done 200 miles since completing the resto, and its running better. Just seems to be a case of twisting the throttle hard to make it better. I will rebalance it again(it doesnt cost anything!) and see if there are improvements.  I am going to replace the jets as advised after xmas, if its still not right. I have had intermittent leaking issues, from a carb, which seems to have gone away again!! Have a OEM float at the workshop now. Will keep you updated.
