New member - interested in getting an 82 cb750 f

This post was updated on .
Hi folks,

New member here based in montreal, always wanted a cb and found this one while riding around recently.

It's a 82 with 44k km on the clock.

Seems to run well.

Besides the cam chain whichI hear should be checked / replaced around that milage , is their anything specific to watch out for or to be aware of when I check it out properly?

Is it true that spares are very hard to come by / very expensive.

Is this model harder / easier to maintain than others .

What would a reasonable price range be?

I am comfortable enough on working on the bike right down to craking engines and raplcing cam chaines big end bearings etc.

Regards

Brett

22 views and no response? Ok, I'll take a stab.  I just recently purchased an 82 F for $3k and was happy with the price.  Mine is the black model, with 23k miles.  It had recently been completely serviced, valves adjusted, 2 new tires, brakes rebuilt and new brake lines, fork seals, new clutch and throttle cables, carbs cleaned and synched, tank coated, new fuel petcock, new battery, and really clean. Everything works as it should, mostly original and runs great.

It's hard to tell by the pics, but I would say start somewhere around $2,500 - $3,000 for a really nice example, and then start subtracting for everything that it needs.  I'm no expert, but I did a fair amount of research on both CB's and GS's before I found mine.  Good luck!

In Kansas City that would be a $1,200 - 1,500 bike, but things are cheap here. I have a friend with a CB 900 F in really good shape, and he can not get $1,800 for it.

In Canada, A bike with 2 bent rims and no engine goes for $2000. Ok, so I am exaggerating a bit, but yet not really. You should see their insurance costs for bikes.

I recently bought an 82 CB750F black model also.... but....... it needs new tires, brakes, mufflers, fork seals and so forth to get it at least rideable. thrilled on having the bike just not thrilled I am not riding it right now. funds and lack of time prevent me from getting it done so I can play.

wish I would have waited a bit longer for something that was more of a turn key so to speak.

best of luck with your choices.
